My favorite time of year
It is spooky season and that means cooler weather, haunting aesthetics, and scary monsters. I have always enjoyed this time of year. I was that kid that wore more than one costume on Halloween night to get twice the amount of candy. I worked in a haunted house one year, and I grew up next to a cemetery— I’ve seen some things. But when it comes to scary monsters, I like the folklore of the yokai.
It all began with my sensei in college. She loved to hear us tell our ghost stories; you know the ones, where kids get scared while camping. But whenever we asked her to tell us scary stories she refused, saying they were too scary. We kept asking her every day until she finally gave in and told us a story about Kuchisake Onna, or “Slit-Mouth Woman”. After that day I went down the rabbit hole and learned about yokai and other Japanese folktales. My all time favorite is Oiwa, which was the inspiration behind The Meido Chronicles.
One of my favorite parts about The Meido Chronicles, other than the story, is the glossary in the back filled with information about yokai, specific oni (demons) and more folklore. If you follow me on Instagram, I have been sharing different yokai throughout the month of October. In fact, I am guest lecturing on yokai for my narrator, George Ellington, for his folktale class he teaches at a college in Utah.
Up coming event
The yokai fun isn’t over as I am also attending a Japanese Bazaar that is yokai themed this year.
If you are in Colorado, I will be at the Cultural Japanese Bazaar hosted by the Japan-American Society of Southern Colorado on October 25th.
Audiobooks
If you missed the announcement, Son of Tenshi is now out on audiobook. The enter Fallen Angel series can now be enjoyed in audio format. Listen today on iTunes, Amazon, or Audible.
Deals of the month
I have added my boxsets of my ebooks to Kobo, and right now The Medio Chronicles and Iron Blood boxsets are on sale for 25%. Sale ends on the 20th of October.
And all month long, books 2 and 3 of my Fallen Angel series are $.99 in Kobo’s Romance That Goes Bump In The Night sale.
Since so many people are boycotting Amazon, I am trying to run sales on other platforms to provide more options for readers.
Writing update
It’s been a while, but here is another writing up date on I Was A Stranger. I am now at 86,097 words and the slow burn is starting to burn. Here is a sample.
